Raft Fishing

We are flying to Alaska for the first two weeks of July.?
We will be traveling by motorhome once we are there. Whale watching, Glaciers, raft rides, fishing, hot springs, etc. What kind of clothes should we pack? I have been researching and getting such a wide range of temperatures. I am just not sure how much and what to pack. I have never been there, and we will be experiencing as much as possible while there.
Sounds like you are traveling within the mainland of Alaska; Anchorage and Fairbanks. You are also in prime time summer. Fairbanks can reach daytime highs in the 90’s; Anchorage in the 70’s and 80’s.
Weather here can change in a hurry so be prepared for rain, and wind, by layering. A light rain jacket with a polar fleece vest is a great combination.
As far as things like rafting; most of the vendors supply you with the appropriate attire so you really don’t have any worries there.
Whale watching, the boats are enclosed with plenty of deck space, so weather is only a moderate concern.
I wouldn’t plan on packing a ton of extra stuff. A lot of the stuff you need, like rain gear for your fishing trip, can be purchased here at reasonable prices (won’t be much different than where you are from).
I encourage everyone to pack according to spring/summer, as a previous poster mentioned. I also encourage people to spend some money on footwear. Running shoes are great for this climate; they are light weight, and comfortable. You will be doing some extended driving while here, so let your feet be happy. A good pair of “adventure” shoes are a must.
If you find you need something, we do have a wide array of places to pick up the necessities; such as Wal-Mart (yes, even in Alaska).
As you are going to be here for a while, pick up a copy of the MilePost; this is a must travel guide here in Alaska. No self respecting Alaskan travels without one! Also, pick up the Great Alaska tour Saver. This is a coupon book with lots of two for one specials on all kinds of attractions.
My family owns and operates a charter boat in Homer; if fishins the mission, we have the boat and skipper (my Dad) to handle it!
I have included web sites for a few things, browse them at your leisure, they will get you pointed in the right direction.
Welcome to the Greatland!
